What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a normal link with a tracking code attached. If you follow it and buy something within a set window, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct.
We are a participant in affiliate programmes including the Amazon Associates Programme, which are designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to products.
Where you will find them
- In reviews, next to the product being reviewed
- In gear guides and kit lists
- Occasionally within articles where a specific product is being discussed
Affiliate links are marked, and every post containing them carries a disclosure near the top rather than buried at the bottom.
What it does not affect
Commission does not influence:
- Whether we recommend something. Our testing policy sets out how we decide.
- What we say about it. We link to products we advise against buying, and we say so in the same paragraph as the link.
- Which products we test. We buy nearly everything ourselves.
We do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review, and we do not let anyone see a review before it is published.
Display advertising
The site shows display ads served by third party advertising networks. We do not choose the individual adverts, and their appearance on a page is not an endorsement.

Supplied products
If a manufacturer supplies a product for testing, that is stated clearly at the top of the review, every time, and we retain full editorial control. We publish our honest assessment including anything negative. If we do not think an item is worth writing about, we say so rather than publishing a review to satisfy the supplier.
Why we tell you this
Partly because UK consumer protection law and the Advertising Standards Authority require clear disclosure of commercial relationships, and partly because a review site that hides how it is paid does not deserve to be believed.
